The Chileware pottery is handmade by artisans in Mexico.

February 24, 2014 Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX– Bowlin Travel Centers created an exclusive pottery line in partnership with Mexico to You Imports. The decorative ware includes plates, bowls and pitchers and is molded, fired, glazed and hand painted in Mexico. Only approved for decorative use at this time, a request has been sent to the FDA for approval to use the pieces for serving in the U.S.

“With the growing demand of customers requesting items not made in China and with the current popularity of Southwestern-style goods,” said Alfred Villegas, general manager of store operations, “we wanted to provide a unique product that not only looks good, but provides support to a small group of artisans in Mexico”

At the beginning of 2013, Alex Carreon of Mexico To You and Mr. Villegas from Bowlin Travel Centers started working on a project to feature the New Mexico Zia symbol and chile designs on ceramic products. “After researching artisans and ceramic techniques,” said Mr. Carreon, “we created a unique selection of plates and decorative ceramics, giving the customer a selection of distinctively different ceramic products.”

Chileware can be found at all Bowlin stores in New Mexico and online at BowlinOnline.com. For a complete list of stores in New Mexico, visit http://www.bowlinonline.com/aboutus.asp.
